How to get an original birth certificate from PSA

There are several ways to get a birth certificate from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in the Philippines. Below are the different avenues:

Walk-in Application

You can apply for an original copy of your birth certificate by walking in on a PSA outlet or any Census Serbilis Centers. For those applying at the East Avenue outlet, the release will be on the same day as specified in the receipt.

For walk-in applications, you would need to bring a valid ID. Aside from the identification, you would also need to fill out a form that would include the following information:

  • An approved appointment
  • Your Full Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Place of Birth
  • Father’s Complete Name
  • Mother’s Complete Maiden Name
  • Purpose of Application

Setting up an appointment online

You must have an approved appointment before walking in on any PSA outlet. Thankfully, you can now do this online with the following steps:

  1. Visit the online appointment portal: Go to Go to the bottom of the page and click the square with the “I Agree” text. Read the reminders carefully before proceeding.
  2. Select a location: On the new window, select the region and the PSA office where you want to transact.
  3. Enter your personal information: Fill out the tabs requiring your name, email address, and mobile number. Make sure it is a working email address since this is where you will receive your verification.
  4. Select your type of request: Select the birth certificate from the request types. If the request is for someone else, indicate their name and your relationship to the requesting party.
  5. Choose date and time: Select the date and time for your PSA visit.
  6. Double-check information: Ensure that all provided information is correct. Moreover, your name on the appointment should match the one on your ID, and it must be complete.

Check your email for the confirmation of your appointment. You will also receive a PDF file with all the details. You can save this or print it out in full, including the QR code. Bring this when you appear at your chosen PSA office on the day of your appointment.

Online Application

You may also request your birth certificate online via the PSA Help Line. The steps are as follows:

  1. Visit the PSA Help Line at
  2. Click the “Order Now” button.
  3. Select the “Birth” button for the birth certificate request.
  4. Tick the buttons to accept the Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy and click “Proceed.”
  5. Select the appropriate button if you are requesting a birth certificate for yourself or for someone else.
  6. Fill out the digital form thoroughly and indicate the ID that you are submitting.
  7. After successfully submitting the form and payment, you will receive your birth certificate within three to eight business days, depending on where you live.

Overseas Application

Suppose you were born in the Philippines but are currently residing overseas. You may still request an original copy of your birth certificate through the PSA Serbilis website.

To do this, below are the steps:

  1. Visit the PSA Serbilis website at
  2. Read the reminders and click on the agreement boxes.
  3. Fill out all the required birth details and select your delivery option. You may have it delivered to an embassy or any government agency provided in the options.
  4. After your information, enter your details as a requester and your delivery address.
  5. Once done, you will see a summary of your information and request.
  6. Make sure all your details are correct and proceed to payment.
  7. Pay all the dues indicated and select your preferred payment method. The standard cost for a copy issuance outside the Philippines is 20.30 US dollars per copy.

What is the difference between a Certificate of Live Birth and a PSA Birth Certificate

A Certificate of Live Birth and a PSA Birth Certificate are two different documents that serve different purposes. Here are the differences between the two:

Certificate of Live Birth:

  • Indicates that the person is medically alive.
  • Contains basic information such as the baby’s name, date of birth, and place of birth.
  • Serves as the first unofficial draft of the mother giving birth to the child.
  • Issued by the medical staff at the hospital where the birth occurred.

PSA Birth Certificate:

  • Issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) after the Certificate of Live Birth is endorsed by the Local Civil Registry Office (LCRO) to the PSA for certification and printing on PSA’s security paper.
  • Required for various purposes such as applying for licenses, IDs, and official documents for school and employment purposes, among others.
  • It can be obtained through walk-in, online, or postal service applications.
